Ladies of the 80's

Throwback Thursday. I am going back to the 80's today. If it wasn't for the 80's, my favorite TV network MTV would not be here. MTV revolutionized the fashion industry and of course the music industry. For some the 80's were in the past and they wanted it to stay there, with their bad hair days, heavy makeup, and bright layered clothing. In the 80's, this decade was when people were trying to discover who they were. This decade also over compensated itself, everyone always wanted things bigger or just wanted more! Big hair, excessive accessories, and those retched shoulder pads... none of those sounds like a fashion do to me. Many of us can hate on the 80's, but the 80's did bring some fun with it as well.

Madonna was a huge hit in the 80's, she was a music sensation. Some described Madonna in the 80's as a "soulful diva." Madonna dressed outrageous in the 80's just like the rest, but when she came out and performed, she dazzled herself in costume jewelry! You knew after Madonna was wearing it, all of her female fans had to follow in her fashion shadow. Madonna wasn't the only one creating a fashion splash in the 80's, Princess Diana had her own style to add to the mix. Princess Diana was definitely a fashion icon in the 80's. The charming Princess Diana became a trendsetter, she didn't wear what the "norm" was. She stepped outside the fashion standards and created her own. She wore what she wanted, even though some of her fashion choices had small mishaps, she was herself. Her gorgeous gowns and dresses I can't even begin to count, every girl admired her and wanted to be her. She redefined the fashion world in the 80's and was definitely a woman to remember. Besides the scandalous Madonna, and the loveable Princess, we can't forget some other ladies of the 80's... Joan Collins who was not only another face of the 80's to add to this list, she was a sex icon and an inspiration to women to be independent. I don't exactly see how she became a sex icon with her huge ruffles and hats to match, but hey it was the 80's! Brooke Shields, the face that people remembered in the 80's and the legs to match in her favorite jeans. "You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins?.. Nothing!" Not only did her skin tight jean style catch eyes of many, her thick eyebrows added to her look, these two aspects of her appearance were almost a trademark of who she was.

I can go on and on with the 80's but I think I caught your interest and gave you enough.. for now! What decade would you go back to for a day if you could? Would you go back to the decade you were born in or would you want to experience a different one? Looking back on the decades, I always find something new that intrigues me and keeps my interest. Going back in time to me and seeing how things have changed (mainly in fashion) gives me a new perspective on how to look at style now.  I wish I could experience many different aspects of certain decades, but hey they do say history can repeat itself right?

Wedge Wednesday

What do my fellow fashionista's think about the latest wedge trend? Are you embracing it or are you letting it pass you by? Sneaker wedges have been very popular but do you think this look is the right look for you? These sporty new wedges need to be paired correctly for it to look stylish and put together. No girl wants to mix sneaker wedges with any elegant look, but if you want a casual or sporty look with a little height, this is the perfect fit! For a fashionable and unique edge, I would recommend buying a pair! I have not bought a pair of these athletic wedges, and I think I'm going to take the plunge and make the purchase! Who's going to join me with this trend?

Dominican Dilemma

Happy Monday Everyone. Sorry I was absent on my page for a week, I was out of the country on vacation. I went to the Dominican Republic for my cousins wedding. The wedding was beautiful and I am so happy for my cousin! I am happy I was included and was able to be their to see the perfect ceremony my cousin has always dreamed of, but the vacation itself wasn't so much the vacation I hoped it would be. We had a lot more obstacles and problems than I ever thought. I'll explain to all of you guys what happened just so you all know what I mean.

My 88 year old Nana (this is what I call my grandma) (who just turned 89 yesterday.) fell down at our hotel on vacation. She ended up breaking her hip and wrist because of this accident. We had to send her home earlier than planned and she had to miss the wedding. She was heart broken of course and so were all of my family, including myself. My Nana is very close to my cousin and to see her have to leave before her wedding was very devastating but before my Nana did have to leave she got a surprise. The night before she flew back home, my cousin and her new husband, decided to have a small ceremony in the hotel room where we were staying just for my grandma. Tears streaming down her cheeks and smile on her face, you couldn't help but feel heartache. They were of course happy tears because she did get to see her granddaughter get married, but she didn't want to leave and miss the real wedding. The most important thing though was my grandmas health and we had to get that worked out before anything. My mom went home early with her as well on the flight. She was very upset and heart broken that she had to miss the wedding as well, but she knew what she needed to do and did her best. My whole family stayed strong together to make sure the wedding came together and most importantly made sure my grandma was taken care of. She and my mother got home safely thank god and my Nana had to get surgery. On top of her falling and missing the wedding, she had to get her surgery on her birthday. It has just been one thing after another and I wish I could turn back time to change it all, but unfortunately everything happens for a reason, even though half the time I don't understand why things happen. All in all the surgery went well and she will be okay, the surgery was half the battle and now we all just have to continue so support her so she can get through the rest of it.

Here are some pictures of the wedding, and some pictures of my family & my Nana. I would like to dedicate this post to her & would like to say Happy Birthday. We all love you so much, stay strong.
